First-party citation data has arrived on one stack. Bing Webmaster Tools’ AI Performance report (public preview, February 2026) shows which URLs are cited in Copilot and Bing AI summaries — the first platform-native citation measurement from any major provider. It is free, and it is the calibration data every paid tool gets judged against. Turning it on is the cheapest measurement project in the area and often the first.
Why this, mechanically. Third-party visibility tools estimate; Bing’s report reports. Reconciling the two calibrates how much to trust the estimates, and Copilot’s data covers the Bing/Copilot/ChatGPT stack that grounds a large share of AI answers. Segmenting AI referrals in analytics adds the traffic side the citation tools don’t see.
Deliverable. Every property verified in Bing Webmaster Tools with AI Performance enabled; Search Console coverage confirmed; AI referrals segmented in analytics; and a baseline dashboard someone reads on a schedule.
